​Alpaca

Alpaca clothing is extremely healthy and comfortable to wear. The absence of lanolin and other oils in the fleece and its extraordinary fineness of handling mean that alpaca garments are both hypoallergenic and luxuriously soft on your skin. When you put on an alpaca sweater, you will immediately notice the absence of the scratchy “prickle” found in garments made of more coarse fiber.
Alpaca fleece is the natural fiber harvested from an alpaca. It is light or heavy in weight, depending on how it is spun. It is a soft, durable, luxurious and silky and natural fiber. While similar to sheep’s wool, it is warmer, not prickly and has no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic. Alpaca is naturally water-repellent and difficult to ignite. Huacaya, an alpaca that grows soft spongy fiber, has natural crimp, thus making a naturally elastic yarn well suited for knitting. More comfortable in cold weather. Warm even when wet. Better wicking of body moisture, superior breathability. Resists odors, even in socks! 100% natural luxurious fiber which is environmentally excellent. Naturally wind resistant, excellent breathability, does not mat or pill, fire resistant, will not melt. Low static and wrinkle resistant (hang up and wrinkles fade away)

More care and cleaning of the fur and wool products

The leather side of the sheepskin is easily damaged by incorrect washing. The main points to note are:

1. Only use a mild detergent which is enzyme-free with no bleaches. Note many wool wash products contain enzymes which can damage the leather. Our Woolskin Wool Wash/Sheepskin Shampoo however is ideal. As an alternative, you can use a mild hand dishwashing liquid for washing smaller items by hand.
2. Only wash in cold or lukewarm water (up to 40 C/108 F).
3. For rugs stretch to shape whilst still damp.
4. Hang out to dry away from direct sunlight.
5. For long wool products brush when dry

Cleaning is easy! For some reason, the lanolin in sheepskin creates a self-cleaning quality when it is hung in fresh air; so try that for occasional light cleaning! For those "oops!" moments, simply sponge or wipe up spills. Small size sheepskin rugs can be laundered in your washing machine in luke-warm water on the gentle cycle. Use a mild detergent such as our WoolWash. (Woolite or Ivory flakes soap can be used, but the results may not be as satisfactory.) DO NOT USE SOAP CONTAINING ENZYMES. Rinse several times in lukewarm water. Line dry out of direct sunlight. When dry, the wool may be combed or brushed with a hard wire brush if necessary.

Sheepskin rugs are versatile and offer many advantages over traditional area rugs. They are easily cleaned and they fit a variety of home decor settings. Their natural property of repelling dirt and bacteria makes them a wonderful choice for those afflicted with allergies. These unique rugs create a soft, body-temperature-regulating cushion in any climate. Not only are they beautiful, sheepskin rugs offer many health advantages over traditional floor coverings.

​Alpaca Sweater Cleaning

Hand washing

Use cool water ( 85ºF / 27ºC max.) and a mild soap or a human hair shampoo.
Never use chlorine bleach. Woolite is not recommended.
Remove any excess water carefully, avoiding any wringling or twisting.
Dry the product in a flat position in the shade. Block the product, reshaping it to its original dimensions.

By hand, carefully remove any wrinkles and straighten seams and facings. Never use a brush.

After the product has dried, touch up with a cool iron as needed
Dry cleaning

If you have a several pieces outfit we recommend that you clean it at the same time to avoid color discrepancies after the washing process.
Inform the cleaner of any spot or stains.
Ask the cleaner to use a fresh solvent in low heat and a process that does not involve tumbling.
It is recommended that you go to a dry cleaner that has previously dealt with alpaca.
Storing and preserving your product

Before storing, make sure that the item is fully dry.
There are various techniques to avoid damage resulting from the presence of moths. It will be better if you store the product in a sealed cedar chest, a freezer (in a zip lock bag) or any moth protected environment.
Sachets using dried lavender are also useful.
We do not recommend the use of mothballs.
